Lampedusa Island

 
 
Who loves the nocturnal life does not go to Lampedusa. You can live the true adventure during the day, in crystal clear waters, to the discovery of its costs where the nature knew to extract beautiful and small inlets.
 
The coasts of Lampedusa are a continuous surprise. The better manner to explore them is circumnavigating the island with a boat: the whole journey finishes in 3/4 hours, but it is preferable to dedicate the whole day to the tour because the temptation to stop yourself for long time in every inlet will be very strong. The offers of tours are many. It agrees to rent a small boat (4/6 beings), to be able also penetrating in the inlets and more squeezed caves that cover the coast. Visit absolutely Cala Cross, Cala Madonna, Cala Galera, Cala Maluk, Cala Creta and l’Isola dei Conigli (the island of the Rabbits) where you can really spend all the day without any trouble.

 
L’Isola dei Conigli (The island of Rabbits) is the most attended place by tourists. Its spacious bay is accessible also from land across a bridle path of some hundred of metres, passable alone on foot. The beach, called Vallone dello Scoglio, is the most spacious of the entire island and is surrounded by low and iridescent waters, an ideal place to swim and to tan yourself. Today the area is under the protection of the WWF because the beach is still one of the little places of the Mediterranean one in which, in spring, the tortoises arrive to put down the eggs digging holes in the sand. The beach is connected to the island of the Rabbits from a thin strip of sand just covered by sea.
 

Other place you must visit is Cala Creta, which you can also reach from the earth and where you can appreciate the beautiful caves and the nice water depth.

The popular feasts, to that participate all of the inhabitants of the island, are included in the period from August to September: the feast of San Bartolomeo on 24th of August and feast of the Madonna in Porto Salvo on 22nd of September. For who does not want to renounce to the fashionable life in this angle of paradise, we signal you "lo struscio" in the central via Roma, where you can buy souvenirs and you can stop in one of the numerous open bars. For people who love dancing, there is a disco in Cala Creta.

 
In front of Isola dei Conigli (the island of Rabbits), on a backdrop of 15 meters, under to an arc of rock, you can see an evocative statue of the Madonna. Wanted from Roberto Merlo, well-known underwater photographer of the years ‘50. Victim of a serious accident during an immersion the day of the feast for the saint patron of the island, he was timely helped by the inhabitants of the island. As a sign of gratitude, he ordered to the Paduan sculptor Giorgio Crosta to realize the statue made of bronze marine. This was lowered in the sea in 1980, on 14th of August.
